Competitive Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG)
Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) is the most popular and well known to the public of all the gymnastics disciplines. Women's Artistic Gymnastics is a challenging sport that demands strength, power, flexibility, agility, and courage.
The girls compete on four apparatus - vault, bars, beam, and floor with competitions spread throughout the year. Provincial level athletes compete locally and throughout Western Canada, while National levels will enjoy traveling across Canada and internationally.
Junior Olympic Program Levels 1-10: The Junior Olympic program was developed with the philosophy that all athletes must have a solid foundation of basic skills in order to advance safely. Athletes progress through 10 levels. Level 1 – 5 are compulsory routines for all athletes. Athletes level 6 or higher have personalized routines that have specific requirements.
There are four competitive events in women’s gymnastics: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
Aspire: Training at the Aspire level parallels with the Junior Olympic program coaching philosophy. Aspire is a program choice made by the coaches.
High Performance: The High-Performance program enables gymnasts to participate in a high-performance environment with training outside of peak facility hours. A modified training schedule provides athletes with an accommodated academic schedule and optimal recovery. This program provides an opportunity to experience a high-performance lifestyle for dedicated and selected athletes to achieve excellence at the national and international levels.
Xcel Program
BY INVITATION – The XCEL program is a 10 month, invite only program for girls aged 6-11 that are ready to take the next step in their gymnastics training. XCEL is an alternative to the Woman’s Competitive Program that offers more individual flexibility for training and skill choice. The girls will train at least twice a week for at least 2 hours at a time and will have the opportunity to perform or compete at local and in province events. The goal of XCEL is to provide gymnasts of varying abilities and commitment levels the opportunity for a rewarding gymnastics experience. From here gymnasts can go to our High School Gymnastics Team or Woman’s Competitive Program.
