Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) - Eligibility & Selection-based program

WAG is the most popular and widely recognized gymnastics discipline. It is a demanding sport that requires strength, power, flexibility, agility, and courage.

Athletes compete on four apparatus: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. Competitions take place throughout the year, with provincial-level gymnasts competing locally and across Western Canada, while national-level athletes travel throughout Canada and internationally.

Canadian Competitive Program (Levels 1-10):
This program is designed to ensure athletes build a strong foundation of basic skills for safe progression. Levels 1–5 follow compulsory routines, while Level 6 and higher allow for personalized routines that meet specific requirements.

  • Levels 1–5 are compulsory, and levels 6–10 are optional

  • Gymnasts perform routines that build on skills and choreography from previous levels

  • The goal is to qualify for provincial, Western Canadian, and Canadian national championships

Aspire:
The Aspire program aligns with the Junior Olympic philosophy and is a coach-selected pathway for athletes aiming to refine their skills towards high performance.

  • A program for young athletes who want to compete at a higher level

  • The program has two levels, Aspire 1 and Aspire 2

  • Athletes master basic skills on all apparatus

High Performance:
This program offers dedicated athletes a high-performance training environment, including a modified schedule that accommodates academics and recovery. It prepares gymnasts for excellence at national and international levels.

  • A national program with three levels: novice, junior, and senior

  • Athletes are given High Performance (HP) status based on their results at Elite Canada

Xcel Program:
Xcel is a 10-month program for those who are ready to advance their training. It provides an alternative to the Canadian Competitive Program, offering more flexibility and inclusivity in skill development. Athletes train at least twice a week for a minimum of two hours per session and have opportunities to perform or compete at local and provincial events. This program allows gymnasts of various abilities and commitment levels to have a fulfilling gymnastics experience, with pathways leading to the High School Gymnastics Team or the Women’s Competitive Program.

  • An alternative to the CCP program

  • Gymnasts perform optional routines

  • Xcel levels include Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond

  • Gymnasts can compete at Invitational Meets and Provincial Championships
